The Bible is often called the sword of the spirit. Indeed, it is a mighty weapon in the hands of those who know how to wield it.
Hebrews 4:12 tell us that the Word of God is alive, active and full of power. God and His Word are one. The first chapter of John's Gospel tells us that in the beginning was the Word. It then goes on to tell us that the Word was made flesh and dwelled on earth. Do you recognize that description? That's talking about Jesus. We know that Jesus is God and that He came to earth to redeem us.
One of the ways we can use the Word is to recall what the Bible says and pray it it into our lives. When we do we release our faith by agreeing with God. Because God is faithful to honor His Word, He comes on the scene to bring change and victory.
But here's an extremely important point that we all need to remember: we can't expect the Word of God to work for us if we aren't living under its authority. We can't expect to get the benefits from the Word without surrendering ourselves to it. Only when we are willing and obedient can we eat the good of the land (see Isaiah 1:19). Only until we submit ourselves to God will the enemy flee from us (see James 4:7).
The Word of God is safety and protection for us on all fronts: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. We must study it so that we can discern the devil's tricks and push him out of our lives.
God wants us to fight and win. So, let's:
(1) Live under the authority of God's Word by being obedient to what it says. Let's make it our final authority. That means changing anything in our lives that does not agree with God's Word.
(2) Make the Bible our first priority by taking time to read and study it each day.
(3) Resist the devil by praying scriptures over our lives.
(4) Continue in the Word and stand our ground until our circumstances line up with the Word.
Remember, God's Word is a weapon. We can use it to destroy the enemy's work in our lives.
